A Work in Progress...

Still working on the sleeping issue with's been about a week since he's been in his own room and he's doing fairly well. Still trying to balance it all out with him but it's hopefully going to get better. He does love to stick his bib in his mouth and leave it there and just look at you...too funny.

Logan slept from 930p - 730a in his room! He's been doing great all week and last night was his best night yet. It seemed to work to let him have his 3rd nap of the day a little later and then start bedtime around 8ish. Not ideal time but he just might be one of those babies that goes to bed a little bit later. But minimal crying makes that bedtime worth it and he's still getting a really good amt of sleep with his naps and night sleep, more than he was getting before. Can't believe at night how soundly and silent he is - he really knocks out. Good for him, I'm sure he feels better!

Well we don't want to get our hopes up too much, but Logan FINALLY slept in his crib last night in his room by himself!  He dozed from 10p - 7a!  He is 5 months tomorrow so some of you are probably saying, "It's about time!" while others are probably saying "Too soon!"  Either way, this was the right time for us, we have been working this week to get him out of our room completely and have him learn to put himself to sleep on his own.  It's been a challenge since we are also pushing this for his naps at home.

But the good news is, so far it seems like he is catching on very fast.  There have been quite a few tears, which breaks my (not Roberto's) heart but I know we aren't killing him and that he will survive.  Thanks to my girlfriend recommending a great book (thanks Andrea!) called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" and some tips from her after she had huge success w/her own daughter and this book, he may be well on his way.  Although, to avoid the cry fests, I think we are going to have to move his bath and bedtime up a little earlier, at least for a little bit.  We'll have to really work on getting him some good naps (which by the way he is taking one right now, only about 2.5 hrs after he woke up) during the day and getting him in his crib to put himself to sleep before 8pm.  We'll see how the rest of the week goes....

Happy Boy

This boy is really happy when he is awake - although nighttime is a different situation! Poor guy! We've finally decided to transition Logan to sleeping in his own room in his crib and it's a challenge. It includes some crying which makes me sad but it's ok, I know it's for the best. U'd never knw he had tears from this picture!

I hate going to bed!

Logan hates going to bed at night and then isn't sleeping too well because of his itchy face! Poor kiddo! He needs lots of sleep cuz he is a growing boy! Oye Vey! Kids! (I think it goes without saying - Roberto and I are a bit sleep deprived ourselves!)

More Firsts....

Logan got his first pair of jeans last week, they are so cute and warm!  He looks more like a little boy each day!

We have also discontinued the rice cereal because he may be allergic to it, not sure but we are pretty convinced that is what has broked out his poor little mouth all around it.  (You'll notice in the below pics.  How can this be?  This kid IS half Korean - allergic to rice?  Sheesh!  If I have to take it out of MY diet as well......that's gonna be a difficult decision.)  What a bummer too, just when we got his eczema under control!  Ugh!  This kid, I tell ya....they don't make 'em like they used to!  He did get to try a banana for the first time the other day though, interested in it as just like everything else but after a few tastes he stuck his tongue out and wouldn't take anymore!  So we may try again today or tomorrow but we are trying to clear up the rash around his mouth so we are giving the solids a rest for a few days, he's had nothing since Fri.

Logan also got his first haircut by our friend Nathan last night!  Nathan was a trooper for doing us this favor and Logan was a trooper for sitting pretty still....he did great!  He now looks more like a little boy!  (That makes me both happy and sad at the same time.)

Rice Cereal Time!

Since the pediatrician cleared us to start Logan on solid foods, we are beginning with rice cereal....the first time he didn't like it at all but the last few times he has been "eating" it (as well as he can!) and it seems to be a success.  This poor kid, he is SO interested whenever we are putting anything into our mouths!  He just stares and stares and when you offer or put something close to his - he opens right up!  Too bad he can only try new things every week vs every few days!  O well, soon enough he will be eating everything!  (Hopefully.)

4 Month Check-Up

Logan had his 4 month check-up on Friday -- He has grown 2 inches in length and his head has grown an inch in the last 2 months!  He weighs 14.7 lbs now, which means he gained 1 lb in the last month.  With his weight, he has actually gone from the 50th percentile down to the 30th percentile but he's still healthy.  We can start him on solid foods now and see how that goes, especially since he is so interested in EVERYTHING we are eating and drinking now and since he feeds longer, he's ready to try some rice cereal!  Also, his face is getting better, thanks to Cetaphil Restoraderm, plus at night we are putting a little Hydrocortisone on his face so it doesn't itch too much while he is sleeping.  It all seems to be helping though, so we'll see if it continues.

What in the...?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Man, I don't know what the deal is with this kid!  He was up until 2am last night!  He's not really crabby or upset unless we are actively TRYING to put him asleep, then he's a little unhappy.  Otherwise, he was content and happy being held, watching tv, talking to us.  Not sure what is going on because he napped well yesterday and we've been interacting with him a ton to wear him out....guess he's just being a B-A-B-Y.  We'll see what tonight brings, supposed to have a fun day with me and him hanging out with Auntie and Grandma and he's with Auntie and Unc today and I'm sure he will be "perfect" for them, as always.  Silly boy!

We've also been fighting with his eczema, he has his 4 month check-up (with shots) on Friday so I will talk to the pediatrician about it some more.  We have been using Eucerin {which she recommended, websites recommend and other people with eczema} like crazy on him, his face is the only bad spot, the rest of his body (I guess because it is covered up so much more) is fine.  We even switched for a few days to this organic special eczema salve to see if something changed and we were hopeful after the first day when it looked better but then it seemed like it got worse!  Poor baby!  So back to Eucerin.  Someone suggested Cetaphil wash and cream, they used it on their daughter for eczema and it supposedly worked well plus I know it's great for sensitive skin so we'll try that's hoping!

Why doesn't he go to sleep at night?

He'll sleep in the car, he'll sleep in the afternoon and ONCE he goes to sleep at night it's great!  BUT, he fights us to go/stay asleep every night!!!!!  Whhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyy?????????!!!!!!!!

Hangin with Auntie and Uncle

Every Wednesday Logan goes with his auntie or grandma and last Wednesday he was with Auntie Stacie and Uncle Casey all day, he had a really good time!  He's even holding his bottle by himself more and more!

As for his eczema, well, as you can see it's still making his little face rosy.  I think because it's exposed the most and people touch it and his face touches their clothes, etc, it's the most irritated of all his skin.  The rest of his body is pretty unaffected.  Poor lil guy, wool seems to be a big culprit so we are staying away from that completely.

you mean the whole time i've been looking at things upside down.

"Keepin' Ur Head Up..." (Isn't that a song????)

We put Logan on his tummy several times a day to work his muscles and he is holding his head up so high now!

Monday Already?

Wow, the weekend sure flew by!  Fri-Sun came and went!  It was fun though, nice to see family and Evan and Steph's wedding was really nice, they looked great.  Logan's first trip!  He did awesome.  Slept almost the whole way up and he did sleep the entire way home!  Great traveler!  He was a little under the weather and it was very cold out, so we didn't do a whole lot in-between dinners/wedding/brunch, but it was still fun.

Happy Thursday

Tomorrow we are going up to the Seattle area to go to my cousin Evan's wedding that will be on Sat night.  Lots planned Fri-Sun so it will be a busy, fun-filled weekend.  Boy, lots to pack for Logan, lots to remember when you are traveling with a 3 month old!  (We can barely remember what to pack for ourselves, let alone a baby too!?!?!?)  Anyways, Logan was pretty happy this morning after he spent the day with his Grandma and Auntie and he wanted to share his froggy pj's with everyone, including the little green friends on his feet.

Guess What Guys?!?!?!

My mom gets to work from home on Tuesdays now with her new schedule!  That means I can snooze away with her nearby, I love it!  Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

Back to Work....

I finally got a decision from my job about part-time work and they approved it!  I work Mon and Wed in the office and I work from home on Tues!  Yahoo!  I am so grateful and start the new schedule this week.  Nice to spend time with Logan but also with a little time away, plus he will get some nice quality time with Daddy on Mondays and family/friends on Wednesdays, so it all seemed to work out great.

We had a 3 month check-up for Logan last Monday and the lil guy is big and healthy weighing in at 13.8 lbs now!  He got a few more shots and between that and the acid reflux this last week we had some rough days but he's still doing pretty good.  The pedicatrician also confirmed he has eczema. Poor guy!  Some people say it's inherited but Roberto and I don't have eczema so not sure what to think.  It's getting really bad on his face, but his arms and legs have just dry, bumpy spots in various places.  So we've stopped wrapping him in wool blankets or putting any wool on him in case that is irritating his skin even more.  She also said to bathe him every day and w/in 3 mins of his bath put on creme all over his body, not lotion but creme since it's thicker and helps keep the moisture in.  I just got some good Calendula creme today at New Season's so we'll try something more natural like that.  I've heard from lots of people how good Calendula is for babies and read a lot online so hopefully it helps, I feel bad for him!  Just hope it's not too itchy.

So, we'll see how next week works out with the new schedule.  Should be a nice balance to my schedule, plus it gives me 4 days in a row off.  By Mon I will probably be ready to get out of the house!  (Also, thanks to Dakota for yesterdays pic!)

I'm not asleep

I'm just resting me eyelids a bit; reuniting the boys for one last hurrah. Now I'm just going to be quiet so as not to ruin the moment. What can I say, that's just the kind of baby I am.

What's that smell. Ah yes its me; clean new baby scent. You know you want it, cannot resist it. Oh so goooooddd is the smell. Ohhh you can get close, but not too close, otherwise you may never find your way back.

So I had an appt to follow-up my gestational diabetes with a clinic in NW Portland that specializes in diabetes, my numbers are still a little bit higher than normal and I got sick of checking my blood sugar when no matter what I ate or when I ate it they were still a little bit high.  The doctor was really nice, we talked about the numbers, my diet, etc and she said since it had only been 3 months since the baby was born it was still kinda close to the pregnancy.  (I guess sometimes the further you get from the pregnancy the lower your numbers go.)  So that was one factor, but honestly I am wondering if possibly I had diabetes of some sort (or was on the edge of getting it) before I got pregnant but was just never tested for it or showed symptoms of it.  That was something she suspected as well.

So she didn't want to formally say I had diabetes since the numbers were not that high, and I have to check in with her in 3 months.  Since Logan was born I have lost a good amount of weight, I weigh less than when I got pregnant, but she suggested losing a little more weight and more specifically getting regular exercise.  So not sure how easy that is going to be but if it helps me not be diabetic then I need to try.  So walks w/Logan but since the weather is getting cold and wet, this probably means trips to the gym....will just have to make time.  ;(

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

Well I'm happy to report Logan is sleeping fairly well at night and if we are at home he gets in some good naps during the day, which seems to help the night sleep.  (Although as I type this he is wide awake and sitting w/Roberto watching TV, something that is becoming a favorite thing for him!  Not sure if that is a good or bad thing...)

Anyhow, he is sleeping up to 5-6 hrs a night now!  It's amazing!  Three months does seem to be the magic number for things for his reflux???  Well, I am not sure if it's his reflux or what is going on but the poor lil guy is spitting up a lot lately.  The last few days he has been spitting up, sometimes in more amounts than others, and we are not sure why.  Is he becoming that baby that just spits up after he eats all the time?  I hope not!  Most of the time he isn't too bothered w/the spit up but sometimes he is.  I am keeping to my diet so not sure what the issue is....we have a check-up w/the pediatrician Monday so maybe that will shed some light on it....

Anyways....what else?  I'm on the hunt for more GF/DF meal ideas, time to bring the crockpot out again, especially with winter here, good soup and stew time, although Roberto is not a big fan of those but they are easy so we'll see....we got the new iPhone and switched from AT&T to Sprint because it was cheaper, the phone is great!  The camera is awesome, excited to use FaceTime with friends and family and like the Siri app.
