Week 17 Baby Update

How big is Lil Arroyo now?  About five inches long and more than three and a half ounces  — the size of my open hand.  His body fat is beginning to form and will continue to accumulate through the end of my pregnancy.  By the time he is born, body fat will make up about two-thirds of his weight (and will make all those chubby parts especially cute).

Lil Arroyo is almost certainly listening up by now. In fact, loud noises — the dog barking, the doorbell ringing — will actually startle our baby (and also get him used to such noises; for instance, fetuses who regularly hear a dog barking will become babies who sleep right through Fido's outbursts).

Our baby's eyes (which have fortunately finished their migration  to the front of his head) are making small side-to-side movements and can even perceive some light, though the eyelids are still sealed.  And since practice makes perfect, he is sharpening his sucking and swallowing skills.  In fact, most of the survival reflexes that our baby will have at birth are being perfected in utero right now.

And here's some proof that he is truly one of a kind - within the next week or so, the pads on Lil Arroyo's fingertips and toes will become adorned with completely individual swirls and creases (aka fingerprints).

He's on the Move!

So Lil Arroyo is finally on the move...yep, that's right, I have felt him move around a bit in the last week or so.  Wasn't sure what it was at first but now I know.  They say earlier on baby's movements feel like "butterflies" in your stomach, but not sure what that really feels like and since having a baby inside me gives me all sorts of stomach issues/pains/etc., I just never quite know if it's the baby or something else.  But it seems that it's official!  I can feel him move around now!  Very exciting!

Lazy Sunday???....Not Quite

So many of you know I had kidney stones and a kidney infection a few weeks back (OUCH!) and it seemed that it went away, I finished the medicine, etc. but I have had a very small amount of pain still and it seems it is getting progressively worse at night so early this morning I decided to call the doctor and to go to Urgent Care.  It may be I am still trying to pass a stone or two that is in the kidney and not necessarily a recurring infection, etc so I just have to keep drinking tons of liquids and wait and see.

We also had our hospital tour scheduled for today so we had to do that, saw the birthing rooms where we will have our little boy this summer and the woman answered everyone's questions.  As you can see below, Roberto was not as excited as I was to do the tour.

Then finally another trip to Babies-R-Us to try and take advantage of their Trade-In Event (25% off a stroller, high chair, etc when you bring in a used one).  After looking for WAY too long, we ended up getting a cool Pack-N-Play and got almost $50 off of it for the free stroller we got from someone off Craigslist that we brought in.  Great deal!  We also signed up to register but after 2 hours in the store we were both tired and crabby so needless to say we've only signed up!  Registry items will be added later.

Week 16 Baby Update

In the next few weeks, our baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed (as we saw in last week's ultrasound), his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head.

His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet.  (Awwww....he will be so cute when he has hair!)  He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

see the profile of the baby

OK So to the right in the picture you see the word profile (yup the side view of his face). Below it that whitish aura is the mouth and the nose. On the side of the head there is a white spot that is the ear. I know I know its like one of those puzzles where you have to cross your eyes to see it, but if you look at it long enough you will get it (don't cross your eyes for the baby) BUT.....

you can try this one

(hint: they really like sand)

Look @ those gams

Now those are some great legs. Just look at them; so strong and robust waiting to kick all night long. You might not be able to tell, but he is definitely on his side laid back.

News!!!!

So Friday afternoon we found out some exciting news and I'm sure you can guess what it is....yes, that's right!  We are having a boy!  It was the 15 wk check-up and that's is right on the edge of possibly finding out the gender.  However, we scheduled an extra ultrasound even though we weren't too sure we would be able to see anything.  The ultrasound tech has a 100% accuracy rate but we were still a little skeptical.  Well, to our surprise we did find out!  Some have asked for the ultrasound pics to be posted and I will try to do that tonight or tomorrow (if I remember!)  There are some cute ones of his legs and profile.

Can't wait to welcome a cute little boy into the world in the summer.  We took our first trip to Babies-R-Us yesterday afternoon and that was pretty overwhelming! Whew!  They have just about everything so that's great, just hard to figure out what brand to buy, what colors, etc....lots to learn!  Now on with the plans!

Week 15 Baby Update!

Baby's now the size of a naval orange!
Continuing the march toward normal proportions, baby's legs now out-measure his/her arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Our fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, but I can't can't feel the movements just yet.

Kidney Stones!

So it turns out I have kidney stones!  Unbelievable!  I guess it's actually kinda common for women during pregnancy to get them due to certain things going on w/the body and I also read that sometimes they are dormant in your body prior to pregnancy and then something just sets them off.  Talk about pain!  I am home today again from work, Sun is when it all started and O MY GOODNESS, it was so bad.  But things are looking up, hoping to find out what the baby is in 2 days!  We try to talk to the baby more and more and are going to start reading to it soon!  Think it will make a difference?

Practice, Practice, Practice

This past weekend the Suarez family moved to their new house so we had Lanna Saturday and Sunday.  We had a great time!  Started out with Saturday service with Stac and Case, Chuck E Cheese with Oliver and Elliott, dinner with Roberto and playtime at home.  She had so much energy, running around having fun and wanting entertainment, both Roberto and I were on the couch just looking at each other saying, "What are we gonna do??"  We ran out of energy too early!  Needless to say, she was finally knocked out by 8pm and I was in bed by 9pm!

We had so much fun with her and she is such a funny, sweet little girl.  Good practice for the near future?  I think so.

Week 14 Baby Update

Baby's now the size of a lemon!

Our adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine, and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys, and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

Baby Bump - Week 14

So I snapped these photos rather quickly at the end of lunch today after I went to the gym, which is why it looks like a women's locker room in the background.  Not sure how clear they are but you will definitely be able to see a more tummy on me than before!  (Last time I tried to do this a few weeks ago and post an update was in the bathroom here at work and someone walked in as I was standing in front of the mirror w/the camera on my phone....I was so embarassed.  I just played it off as if I was looking for a cell signal {Not sure why I'd be trying to call someone in there but I had to think quickly!}or something but they probably wondered what in the world was I doing?????)
