Logan Chase Arroyo

Finally I'm free. It took a little time, but now I am ready to melt hearts. Look out! Here I come

Yup; that's me. Just thinking about you. ;)

Hooray for us!  We got a lot accomplished last night and feeling very good about it all.  Roberto got the 2 dressers put together from IKEA for the nursery so that will help organize things even further!  (I love it when a plan comes together!)  I braved another night at Babies R Us and got a lot of last minute things needed from the registry, etc and the ever infamous glider!  Woo hoo!  So lots of progress and Babies R Us is awesome with all their coupons and discounts so I wanted to hit them up before those expired.  Got 20% off the glider, 10% off all remaining registry items that needed to be purchased (that wasn't much at all) and so was feeling really good about that.  Also put the carseat in finally!

Not too much new news with how I'm feeling, could be any day now....the weather in Portland is so gorgeous here today and is supposed to be nice for the next 10 days.  A great time to have Lil Arroyo!  The below are iPhone pics I took yesterday and today since I haven't posted pics in a few days.  Just me at work and my giant belly and then some views from the windows by my desk at work.  Have a great day!

No News..... sometimes good news?  Well nothing new to report with Lil Arroyo.  I'm feeling the same really, looks like it will be a "wait and see" kinda thing so in the meantime we are just wrapping up last minute things we need to get done and I am trying to rest some so that when he does decide to come we are ready!

It's Monday!

So we made it thru the weekend w/no baby yet!  (I just realized that the name of this blog will be changing soon too, with the debut of our lil arrival and the "unveiling" of his name.  Sorry, that has been kept under wraps for over 9 months now....but it won't be much longer and you will all be using his name!)

More contractions and back pain now too so we know things are moving right along.  Not suprising that I am more tired and sleeping as much as I can, when I can (hooray for afternoon weekend naps!) and just wrapping up a lot of loose ends at home and also at work this week.  I am confident this next weekend won't end without a new baby in hand.  (And if Sunday the 24th does come and go without a baby, well, I don't know what to say....)  I think my family is right and I am growing almost "daily" now so if he doesn't show himself by next weekend you probably won't want to talk to me anyways cuz I'll be too crabby and uncomfortable!

Anyhow, doing a last minute run tonight or tomorrow night to Babies R Us to order the rocker, get a few things from the registry with their great 10% discount....ordering a glider which should be here within a week, Roberto set up the Pack-N-Play yesterday that has a bassinet part already on top so that's what Lil Arroyo will be sleeping in when he comes home....dressers will be put together sometime this week so that's another plus.  Slowly but surely we are getting it all together and not freaking out either!  Amazing!  Just can't wait to see what this beautiful baby looks like.....thanks to everyone for their kind emails, calls and text messages and "well wishes" as everyone is just as anxious (if not more!) for Lil Arroyo to come!

Doc Update

So we had our ultrasound yesterday and it's hard to see too much since Lil Arroyo is so big now.  He's estimated to be about 6.5 lbs now (they can't really estimate his length in an ultrasound) but everything measured well and there's also plenty of fluid in there still, which explains how much he still moves around!  His head is down (and of course we couldn't see his face AGAIN) in the perfect position for birth so we are all set there.

I am also now dilated to about 3 so that is moving along well too, and with gestational diabetes patients the doctor doesn't like to go much past 39 weeks due to the size of the baby, the blood sugar going up and down, being on the medication, etc etc so we also scheduled an induction for Thursday, July 28th!  Scary and crazy and exciting at the same time.  SO, if Lil Arroyo doesn't come on his own before then, I will be induced on July 28th!  Honestly, I think he will be coming before then, just the way my body feels, I am getting more and more pain where I have not had any before and my belly is just getting bigger too!  We'll just have to wait and see....

Did a lot of returns with my mom today so that was super helpful.  Rob got a lot of baby blankets and onsies washed yesterday so we are crossing things off our list.  My bag is almost packed too!  Things are looking up!  Will keep you posted!

Not Much Fun....

Ok so I'm not having so much fun anymore.  I'm pretty miserable, today and yesterday have been tougher days, lots more pressure in the lower part of the belly and overall it's just so big and hard.  (Fortunately not too much pain though in belly or back, some but not much.)  Like a contraction but permanently, especially each time I get up to walk somewhere.  Plus my feetsies are swelling!  (SAD FACE)  O well, I guess some women deal with this the ENTIRE pregnancy, I should be grateful Lil Arroyo is only putting me thru this the last few weeks.  Anxious to see what the ultrasound and doc says tomorrow, just so I know it's not all in my head.

Everyone in and out of work keeps asking me when my last day is and I just keep saying I'm working until I pop, but I'm not so confident of that decision anymore, or maybe I can start leaving earlier or coming in a bit later.  I'll see what happens....but this is definitely getting tougher.....

Ok today must just be my rant and rave day, trying to tie up loose ends but ends up our furnture order (that we have been waiting for SINCE MARCH) had to be cancelled yesterday because everything was on back order, etc etc due to crib recalls, new regulations for 2011, yadda, yadda, yadda.  So that was a bummer and a bit irritating seeing that we have been waiting months for it all and then they still couldn't give us a definite time period as to when it would arrive.  So we cancelled it, and I guess that's what you get when you go custom.

Anyhow, so on to the next thing, found a great crib that was actually a few dollars less on Pottery Barn Kids website and it's brand new cuz my height requirement (or is it heighth?) didn't fit their cribs when I was looking before.  So we are going w/that one and I am ordering it tomorrow.  Hope that all works out, should be here w/in 1-2 weeks.

Sun Valley Espresso

Did take a drive out to Ikea last night because we were going to go w/one of their cribs and they are ALL OUT TOO! glad I made the trip out there.  Not only are there cribs totally oversold (just because they sell a lot of stuff and because of the new regulations/recalls) but they are not carrying any for over a month!  Nice waste of time.

The dresser/changing table issue though is still up in the air.  Wanted to buy one w/the crib at Pottery Barn Kids but a lot of the reviews (on their website) weren't very good and, of course, they are not cheap.  So we MAY go BACK to Ikea for the dresser for Lil Arroyo.  The colors won't be exact to the crib but at this point, WHO CARES.

Also, did I mention I still need to pack my bag for the hospital, Lil Arroyo's bag (although I hear the hospital has almost everything you need for the newborn baby so that's nice), Roberto should pack his bag, need to do returns and wash the baby's stuff in the next week, put the car seat base in and get it checked out, etc etc etc.

Our Skip Hop messenger diaper bag is also on order, should be here just in time for his arrival and our trip to the hospital.  Hard to decide on what to get, or get more than 1 diaper bag, a more "girlie" one for me and a more "guy" one for him but in the end I tried to listen to my realistic side and get a more practical/sturdy one.  Just looks like a messenger bag basically and in the end it's probably cheaper than what I was going to buy in the first place!  HA!

Plus there is still the outstanding glider issue!!!!

BUT, despite all of this I am still smiling cuz I can't wait to see Lil Arroyo's cute face on Friday at the ultrasound and soon to be in person!  It will all get done, I have lists coming out of my ears and Roberto is being patient w/me, as always.  I just love him.  More to come.....

Interesting Facts...

With just three more weeks to go and at about six and a half pounds (though weight and height vary from fetus to fetus), our baby is doing just fine. We can expect weight gain to be about half an ounce per day. (Boys, though, are likely to be heavier at birth than girls. And here's a bit of boy baby trivia to back that one up: Moms carrying boys tend to eat more than moms carrying girls — a foreshadowing of teenage refrigerator raids to come.)  Since our little one is considered full-term at 37 weeks pregnant, if Lil Arroyo was to leave the wet nest this week, he would likely thrive. Hooray!
So what's keeping him busy while waiting it out until D-day? Practice, practice, practice. He's simulating breathing by inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, sucking on his thumb, blinking, and pivoting from side to side (one day you feel the tushy on the left side, another day it has swung around to the right side). All these are skills needed for his next gig  — starring as newborn.  (It would be super cute if we could see him doing some of these tricks on Friday during the ultrasound!)

Here's an interesting fact: Lil Arroyo's head (which, by the way, is still growing) will, at birth, be the same size circumference as his hips, abdomen, and shoulders. And guess what's making an impression (literally) these days on those shoulders and hips: fat — causing little dimples in those cute elbows and knees, shoulders and hip, and creases and folds in the neck and wrists.

36 Weeks and Counting!!!

I can't believe it's already been 36 weeks, this lil guy is coming VERY soon.  Some have asked for recent "belly photos" so here are some I had Roberto take these Fri morning before work.

Here's what's going on with Lil Arroyo at 36 weeks:

He is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. He now weighs almost 6 pounds and is more than 18 1/2 inches long.  At the end of this week, our baby will be considered full-term. (Full-term is 37 to 42 weeks; babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 are post-term.)

His skin is getting smooth and soft, his gums are rigid, his liver and kidneys are in working order, and his circulation and immune system are basically good to go. Lil Arroyo's lungs are the only organs that still need to fully mature, but every day he gets a little closer to breathing on his own.  Yeah!

Last time we checked he was in a head-down position so that's good, had a Non-Stress Test on Friday afternoon where you go to the hospital and they hook you up to a few monitors to see the baby's actions, heartbeat and monitor contractions and then the doc looks at the results.  All was well w/that, the lil boy didn't like having the monitors on the belly so he moved around a lot!  We were actually in the birthing room for the tests so it was a little preview of what's to come....I started making my list of what to bring to the hospital, need to pack a bag this wk and have things ready just in case.  You never know!

If you haven't seen Good Sam's birthing rooms, copy and paste the link below into your internet browser and then on the page to the right of the page it will say "Family Birth Center - Take a Tour Online" and that will show you where Lil Arroyo will be born!  It's all done in the same room (provided it's not a C-Section) from start to finish so that's nice and there's lots of space and privacy.

Good Weekend

Thursday afternoon my work gave me a baby shower and Roberto came!  It was really nice, I ended up getting another pack-n-play which is perfect for keeping at my parent's house since Stacie already has one at hers.  Plus I got lots of great books (guess they want Lil Arroyo to be smart or something) and cute things from everyone else.  Really nice.

We also had a regular check-up with the doctor and turns out my body is already preparing for this baby to come!  On Friday she told me I am already dialated 1 CM and he will probably come a week early!  O boy!  We better get ready!

After that we had a nice long weekend last weekend, did Friday at the convention since we didn't go to that day previously and then Sat - Mon we relaxed, Roberto finished up the painting that needed to be done in our house with our bedroom so nice to get that out of the way.  Have to put that all back together tonight but it looks great!  (By the way, the Benjamin Moore Natura paint is a great way to go for prego women or just anyone that wants more natural, no odor no voc since that's not good for anyone.  It really doesn't smell or give off fumes, it was great.)

Had a nice massage on Sat cuz my hips are still killing me and Monday went to my mom's to do a bunch of cooking which was super helpful cuz we have NOT been doing any cooking at all.  Eating out or picking up food way too much and also not eating very healthy.  (That's becoming a huge challenge for me in this last month, my diabetes eating.  I HATE IT!  You are already so uncomfortable and irritable and whatever that the last thing you want to think about is when you ate last, what you ate, don't forget to write it down, and prick your finger.  Oye Vey.  So trying to keep up with that and not stray off the diet too too much.)

Another check-up this Friday and now they want to monitor Lil Arroyo's heartbeat each week (guess it's standard for getstational diabetes patients) so we will be doing that after the check-up.  Also looking forward to one more ultrasound this month, hopefully he won't be so shy this time and show us his cute little face!  Can't wait to see him in person!!!!!
